A few photos from past Spring Meets at RLS

Sunday morning began with an overnight low of 52 °F with mostly cloudy skies. OS Neiman provided a variety of donuts from 2 locations to motivate RLS crews on the Westbound Figure 8. Stationmaster Maness shuffled nearly 600 passengers through Hunter Station while 6 freight trains eagerly worked the mainline. Rain never came.

RLS was the recipient of a very generous donation. A family outside LA offered a working "Magnetic Flagman" wigwag for installation on our railroad. Road 2 ordered a signal crew of Gurwell, Borcher, and Neiman to retrieve the device while the Chases and Ronne performed engine maintenance at the compound. New facility upgrades are underway.

OS Adams was on duty for the Eastbound Figure-8 coordinating an extra half-dozen freight trains out from LA Live Steamers while Road 2 fed the crews with a variety of fried dough confections from Christy's. With an afternoon high of 62 °F, everyone enjoyed a glorious day of steam despite what looked like the threat of rain in the morning.

The Roadmaster provided 2 dozen assorted donuts from Christy's to galvanize the RLS work crews on this Special Sunday Work Day. The track gang installed a new switch at Vandenburg Crossing. The Car Foreman resealed the storage container roofs after recent upgrades while the CS performed routine maintenance within the compound.

The first Run Day in February started out cool and a bit blustery. Members showed up early to get a few laps in before the predicted rain came in.

Road 2 was the Operating Superintendent on this cool and cloudy day. There was morning fog before the afternoon high of 63° F at 1:48 pm. The 5057 and 919 were in service with passenger departures from Hunter Station until 2 pm. The railroad also saw 5 freight trains in operation on Westbound Figure 8 throughout the day.

Over 3 dozen members turned out to work on several projects. The SMP performed routine Hunter maintenance while the Roadmaster supervised the track crew in Allen's Valley. The 919 gang built the first new switch of 2020 as the CS directed general clean-up and weed abatement within the Compound. Lunch was served by Chef Enwright.

The first Public Run Day of 2020 experienced an afternoon high of 61° with clear and sunny skies. Hunter Station was steady with the departures of nearly 600 passengers under the supervision of Station Master Maness. Passenger Service was provided by the 5057 Hunter Crews and the Crew of the 919. There were well over a half-dozen freight trains traveling the mainline throughout this very busy day.

This is the 2020 RLS Annual Dinner with the 2019 Awards Presentation at the Hidden Valley Golf Club in Norco, CA. Congratulations to Richard Ronne for earning the 2019 RLS Hogger of the Year Award!

It's been a long tradition that the members of RLS run on New Year's Day. There are no public rides given on this day because it is members and their guests only.
